Q1. If I install DB2000 for the first time and have a copy of another members database (DBxxx.mdb), how do I use it?
  • Install DB2000 and copy the database file to the same folder.
  • Start DB2000 and click on the "Start" menu
  • Dismiss the new start message, checking the "Don't Show Again" box if you wish.
  • Select your district and squadron.
  • You should now see a message stating that a database was found and saved as a dated backup. Note the file name.
  • You now have a new empty database, so you need to replace this with the backed up file.
  • From the file menu, select "Database options"
  • Select "Replace Primary with Dated Backup"
  • Select the file that was backed up.

You should now have a functional database. Note: Do not use the Import selections in the file menu. These are for updating an existing database.

Q2. How can I distribute a list of affiliated members to other DB2000 users in my squadron without having to replace their complete database?
Here is a simple way to do this, but be careful.
  • Open DB2000. Don't start anything other than this procedure because you will lose any changes.
  • Enter roster grid and tag all records.
  • Goto affiliates column and sort it by right-clicking the column header.
  • Untag those affiliates you wish to distribute.
  • When done, click the red "DT" button to delete all tagged records from the database. This will leave just your selected records.
  • Exit the roster grid. If you get a "Can't find commander" message, ignore it.
  • From File menu select "Make a Dated Backup." This will make a database from your current copy. Make sure you note the file name. Note: In version 3.5.1 or later, use the "Save As" option.
  • From File menu select "Discard Current Changes" Important: This will restore your original database.

You can now distribute the backup database you made to the members that are to receive it. They can copy the records to their own databases using the following procedure.

  • Make sure the distributed database is in the DB2000 folder. This should be "C:\Program Files\DB2000v3"
  • From menu select "File\Open Dated Backup Database" select the distributed file and open it.
  • Enter roster grid and tag all records.
  • From menu select "File\Copy Tagged Records to Another DB"
  • Select the target database,  usually the squadron primary.
  • Copy the records.

That's it. Switch the database back to the squadron one and the new records should be there. The distributed database can now be deleted.
