District Flag Heraldry: The fouled anchor and ring of stars on a red field that is part of the USPS ensign design was the inspiration for the District 6 flag. The '6' wrapped around the anchor is suggestive of the traditional fouled anchor design. At the time the burgee was originally designed, there were 19 active squadrons in District 6, so there are 19 stars in the surrounding circle. The vertical blue and white stripes were also inspired by the USPS ensign.
