Squadron Burgee Heraldry:
The colors of the Humacao Power Squadron burgee follow the colors of the Humacao city flag which are green, orange and yellow. Only gray is missing. TheTaino Indians’ (Puerto Rico’s natives at the time of the discovery of America) sun was selected because it was the symbol of authority of the Tainos’ village chiefs. One of them was called "Jumacao" from which the city of Humacao derives its name. Jumacao was one of the first Taino chiefs who learned to write Spanish, and that is the reason for the"H" shaped stripes. The Taino sun resembles a boat’s wheel. The missing dot in the right upper "spoke" is correct. That is the way the Taino sun was drawn on petroglyphs found in various pre-Columbus ceremonial grounds.
