Squadron Burgee Heraldry:

Our pennant shows a poinsettia and twelve blue herringbone stripes on a white background. The City of Greenville, South Carolina, is known as the Poinsettia City. The poinsettia flower was first introduced to the United States by, and named for, Dr. Joel Poinsett, who was a resident of the Greenville area. Dr. Poinsett was Minister to Mexico from 1825 to 1829 and brought the poinsettia back with him on his return. The twelve blue herringbone stripes represent the twelve charter members of the Greenville Squadron.
