Squadron Burgee Heraldry:

The Burgee of the Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron consists of several elements symbolic of the purpose of the organization.

1. The blue, red, and white colors symbolize and identify our relationship to, and our charter as a part of, our parent organization, the United States Power Squadrons.

2. The thirteen vertical blue and white stripes identify this burgee with the official ensign of the United States Power Squadrons, and with the long heritage of safe boating through education the national organization has promoted.

3. The white screwpile lighthouse silhouette on the red field symbolizes our location on the Chesapeake Bay where, in our service area of the Northern Neck of Virginia, there were several lighthouses of this design, the closest being Windmill Point light at the mouth of the Rappahannock River, and Smith Point light at the mouth of the Potomac River. Since these screwpile lights have been replaced by more modern skeleton towers with automatic lights, our design reminds us of our heritage inthis area and serves to remind us to continue to be a beacon of safety for the boaters in our region through our education programs.

4. The burgee is designed in typical pennant format with the hoist being approximately two-thirds the length of the fly and will identify all those who fly it as members of the Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron
