Squadron Burgee Heraldry:
The design of the burgee uses the national colors of red, white and blue. The red and blue compass rose located on a white background represents the Squadron’s publication, the 'Compass Rose', and the city of Norwich is known as The Rose of New England. The north cardinal point of the compass rose is represented by a gold star to commemorate the memory of P/C Howard A. Knight, JN of the New London Power Squadron, who contracted pneumonia on a stormy night while on his way to teach a Squadron AP class and passed away before his dream of a Norwich Power Squadron became a reality. The remaining cardinal points are represented by red diamonds, and the four intercardinal points by blue half diamonds. Two vertical blue stripes signify two for 1952, the year the local squadron was formed. The vertical white stripe between the two blue stripes indicates the one of District 1. All is enclosed in a red marginal border.
