Squadron Burgee Heraldry: The red field was selected to correspond to that used in the USPS Ensign. The four blue chevrons and three white chevrons are in the same aspect as the long blue and white vertical stripes which appear on the right of the field of the USPS Ensign. The three white chevrons are symbolic of the three legs of the USPS Triangle: Self Education, Civic Service, and Fraternal Boating Club. The four blue chevrons are indicative of the four Squadrons in the Washington, D.C. area: Potomac River, Northern Virginia, Prince George’s and Rockville. The red field contains the nautical chart symbol for a rock indicating Rockville.
