Squadron Burgee Heraldry: Squadron Burgee Heraldry: The green background of our burgee represents the Roanoke Valley. The upper blue line represents the Roanoke River. The lower blue line represents the Blackwater River. Where the Roanoke and Blackwater Rivers join, they form Smith Mountain Lake, which is the main lake in the area. The star is the symbol for Roanoke, the main city in our valley. Roanoke is referred to as the “Star City”. The gold border designates our 50th anniversary as a USPS squadron.
