Squadron Burgee Heraldry: The colors, red and black, were chosen because they were unique when compared to other Squadron burgees. The black could be construed to represent the Tar River. The red represents the sunrise over the Pamlico and Tar Rivers. The wavy line separating the two colors could also represent a river. The gold anchor is symbolic of a nautical organization.i have just changed the wording of the anchor from white to gold.
