Fall 2012 USPS Junior Navigation Course
Offered by Charles River Sail and Power Squadron in conjunction with
Great Blue Hill Sail and Power Squadron, both units of the Unites States
Power Squadrons. Junior Navigation is the first in a two-part program of
study in offshore navigation, followed by the Navigation course. It is designed
as a practical "how to" course. Subject matter includes:
- Precise time determination
- Use of the Nautical Almanac
- Taking sextant sights of the sun
- Reducing sights to establish lines of position
- Special charts and plotting sheets for offshore navigation
- Offshore navigational routines for recreational craft
All classes on Tuesdays, 7 to 9:30 pm at the Westwood Council on Aging

Class will meet twice in the Fall (Sept 11 and October 2) and then resume on January 8, 2013 meeting weekly through March 26, 2013.
At the first two meetings students will learn how to use a sextant and take sights. Between October 2 and January 8 students will have time to take the required sights. Starting in January, sight reduction (computations) and the remaining topics will be covered.
Price: $120 for USPS members and $150 for non-members
