Requests for the student and instructor manuals for the Boating course have been submitted by the Squadron Education Officer but not yet filled. A public Boating Course is planned for Tuesday, 16 January 2008. The course will be offered at the Chula Vista Marina, with D/Lt/C Katharine Law acting as certified instructor and assisted by other squadron members. Additional Boating Courses are planned for late spring and September. Seamanship and Piloting courses are also being scheduled for next year. An Instructor Development course will also be given.

Seven members participated in an all-day Operations Training Program seminar on a Saturday in early August at the Chula Vista West Marine store

Squadron Activities (since organization last spring)
The Provisional Charter for the South Bay Squadron was granted by the USPS Operating Committee in June and announcement of the squadron's organization was made at the Norfolk, VA Governing Board meeting in September. The charter members are dedicated to reaching full squadron status within the next 18 months, through recruiting of experienced boaters in the area and signing up graduates of the Boating Course.

Burgee and Publication:
Several designs for the squadron burgee have been developed and a final choice will be made at the November members' meeting, in time for consideration by the D/28 Winter Council A name for the squadron's publication has been chosen, and it will be called: The South Bay Neptune. Articles are being assembled and it is expected that the first issue will aid recruiting additional members.

Social Events:
The squadron members have had three dinner meetings at local restaurants, all prior to (and in connection with) business meetings. The Chula Vista Marina has offered to provide a meeting room for future meetings.

Public Service:
Squadron members have participated in several Boat Shows in the South Bay area, passing out USPS printed materials and safety pamphlets, and answering questions about boating safety. Thanks are extended to Cdr Ted Bowler of the San Diego SPS and his wife, Lt/C Claudia Bowler, who joined us in staffing our booth at the California Yacht Marina picnic, along with D/Lt/C Katie Law, who also assisted at this event.

Vessel Safety Checks:
The squadron has three qualified VEs, Ed Brunjes, Katie Law and Elaine Townsend. All have made themselves available to perform VSCs on boats in the area, but their reports have been submitted under the San Diego SPS.. We hope to have additional VEs qualified in the coming year.
