Last Horizon

Lt/C Thomas M. Cashin, P
October 17, 1942 - March 4, 2010

Tom was born in Chicago and grew up in the Chicago suburbs, where he attended college and then spent 35 years working in the metropolitan area.  Tom retired and moved to the Village of Egg Harbor with his wife Paula on April 1, 2001.

Their two daughters, with their spouses, and Lily, their grandchild, still reside in the Chicago area, along with numerous other relatives.

Tom was the Door County Sail & Power Squadron Executive Officer for many years.  He was a tireless worker, heading up the Vessel Safety Check program, among other projects.  Tom accepted the position of Bridge Secretary and was installed at the 2010 Change of Watch on Saturday, February 20th, just a few weeks before his untimely death.  Paula, also an active member of the Squadron, is editor of the Scuttlebutt, the Squadron's monthly newsletter.

In addition to boating, Tom enjoyed snorkeling, reading, making delicious fruit jellies, and entertaining his family and friends with his many funny stories.  His favorite jokes were bad puns.  The Cashins' powerboat is named - wait for it - Cash Out!

Tom was dedicated to his family and friends, passionate about boating safety, and generous with his talents and time.  He will be truly missed.

Ruth Wentworth, 1930-2009

Ruth C. Wentworth, 78, wife of Door County Squadron member Alan Wentworth, died on 4 January 2009. Ruth attended many Door County Squadron meetings and events. She loved the area, her boat, and the water. And she cherished her many friends in the Door County Squadron.

Ruth held several positions in the Green Bay squadron, including that of commander, 2000-2001. During her watch, the squadron won the Prince Henry award, and was cited by the Coast Guard for its contributions to boating safety. She was active on several national committees and enjoyed the annual trips to their meetings.

During her marriage of 52 years, she became an essential advisor to her husband and a loyal supporter of his activities. Ruth was a strong maternal figure for her four children.  All became boaters and comfortable swimmers in childhood. Her life was full of accomplishments, experiences, and love. She will be missed, and her example will be remembered for years.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alan as he copes with Ruth's passing .
We will all miss Ruth's delightful smiles,
much like Bellatirx, one of the brightest in the universe.
