Boat Smart®  

      The USPS, four session Boat Smart® course is designed
     to familiarize the public with the fundamentals of safe boating.  

    Successful completion of the course includes a Wisconsin DNR Safety Certificate
    now required for all motor boat operators born after 1988, according to the
    Wisconsin Boating Regulations, and may lead to lower boat insurance
.

  The Boat Smart® course covers:

  1. Boat handling under normal conditions
  2. Adverse conditions and emergencies
  3. Types of boats and boating terminology
  4. Required and recommended equipment
  5. Boating regulations and navigation rules
  6. Lines and knots
  7. Charts and aids to navigation
  8. Marine radio usage
  9. Trailer boating

Children, ages 11-15, can take the course if accompanied by an adult;
however, for DNR certification they must be 12 by the last day of class.

This class will be held at the Sturgeon Bay campus of the
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) located
at
229 N. 14th Ave.
