Courses@phx-usps.comNovember Report:
By Lt/C Ron McNeil, AP
Seamanship class is tentatively scheduled to run during the month of November. This will be held at Camelback Toyota (1550 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix). The class will meet Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm during the month of November beginning November 6. The class is provided free of all charges to members of the squadron, but pre-registration is required. If interested please contact me ASAP so we can confirm the class and make sure we have the needed class materials in time.
On-The-Water Training is scheduled to be offered to our members for a couple of weeks during January. This is a great opportunity to get behind the wheel to learn and practice boat handling maneuvers. These sessions are expected to take place at Lake Pleasant using a center console power boat, which is owned by USPS and will be on loan to us during January. For those interested in acquiring a BOC (Boat Operator Certification) this is a great start, but that is not the full intent of this. Any members can take advantage of this to up their skills, or to get some experience operating a power boat.
We would like to offer the “Heart Saver CPR AED First Aid for Adult and Child” class presented by the American Heart Association. Being able to react and provide assistance in an emergency situation is invaluable. This is especially important when boating as we may be hours away from help. This will be a single, full day course taught on a Saturday either in January or February. There will be a cost of about $90 per person. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested. I don’t need a commitment at this time but I do need to know if there is enough interest in the club to pursue this. The class size will be limited to 9 people, so once we confirm the class, I will secure seating in the order in which I received responses, for those still interested.
Cruise Planning is tentatively scheduled for Jan-Feb. This is an 8 week course focused on planning and preparation necessary for a safe and enjoyable cruise. We will cover planning for extended cruises on coastal waters as well as inland waterways. This addresses the needs of power cruisers and sailors, for boats owned or chartered.
Call me at 602-361-3932 or send me an email at ronaldwmcneil@yahoo.com if you are interested in any of these classes.

Administrative Officer
Lt/C Chuck Davis, PNovember Report:
Now is the time of year where we transition into our largest social events and educational opportunities (see Educational Officer Ron McNeil’s column.) The Squadron finished up October with the General Meeting at the Old Spaghetti Factory.
We all enjoyed a great program provided by Dan Rye on his summer trip cruising the coast of Alaska and his adventure with the Coast Guard just out of Juneau (you will have to ask someone who was at the meeting for the exciting details.)
November starts out with our annual South of the Border rendezvous. This event is coordinated by Paul Schoonover and is centered at his beautiful house in Cholla Bay. It runs from the Friday evening, the 2nd, thru breakfast on Sunday morning, the 4th.
Lodging can be attained with camping in the Sandy Beach area, local hotels, or any of the condo rentals available. Just Google Rocky Point for contacts. Any questions can be answered by contacting Paul. So grab your passports and enjoy a beautiful beach weekend South of the border. Caravanning down is also available through Paul. October 17 is our ever popular Turkey Fry. This will again be held at Bartlett Lake. Camping is available starting Friday night. As usual, this is a potluck and Connie Johnson asks that you contact her to get a feel as to what is needed for a balanced menu. Dinner will be followed by a short November General Meeting. Rob Anderson and Bill Johnson are coordinating the event and questions should be directed to them.
December host our largest Squadron event of the year with the annual Christmas Party. This year, we are moving the festivities, after many wonderful and gracious parties at Willie Burgeson"s, to Rob Anderson's. The event will be on the 8th and is planned to start at 1pm with dinner at about 2:30pm. More details will follow in next month's Pipe. We will complete the month with our annual opportunity to flaunt our great winter weather to the rest of the United States Power Squadron by having our usual Santa Cruise out at Lake Pleasant. If you have never spent an afternoon on the water in the winter in Arizona, it's a different, but completely enjoyable experience. So plan on joining us. Chris Lockyear-Bratton is the coordinator, and I am sure there will be room available on someone's boat to go if yours is in winter storage. Just contact Chris
