Because of the large number of enrollments experienced in the past two years, we have found it necessary to limit the class size. Therefore, to assure your placement in the March class, your Advance Registration and check should be received no later than Saturday, two weeks before the course starts. A few "walk-in" registrations may be accepted on a space available basis the evening of the first class, but we suggest that you arrive no later than 6:30 PM!
This course is directed to Adults and Mature Teens and, presents 20 hours of formal instruction in the subjects indicated on the enclosed Class Schedule. Except as indicated, the class will meet each Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (NO CLASS WILL BE HELD during school break). Homework is assigned weekly as indicated in the Course Schedule, and is a requirement of the course.
Nationally Certified Instructors, who are Members of the
Bare Cove Sail & Power Squadron, will present the course. It will conclude
with a "closed book" written examination on a Wednesday,
mid-May. Although this course is designed primarily
for Adults and Mature Teens, it also meets the educational
requirements of all states for powerboat operators between the ages of 12
and 16. Students under the age of 16, if accepted, will be
administered [and graded on] the written examination prescribed by the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A test score of, at least, 80% in both
examinations is required for Massachusetts certification.
