FALL and SPRING
EXCLUSIVELY FOR STUDENTS
WHO ARE ENROLLED IN HINGHAM SCHOOLS
WHO WILL ATTAIN AGE 12 OR OLDER BY JUNE 1
THIS CLASS IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 25 STUDENTS ENROLLING
This is a five session elective program of Boating Safety instruction.
that will meet from 2:30 PM to approximately 4:30 PM
on each of five consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays,

REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OFFICE
BY MID
SEPTEMBER EACH YEAR FOR FALL CLASS
Registrations must be received in the school office no later than
last Friday in September.
Hingham Boat Smart class at the Middle School -
tentatively, we will schedule the class for consecutive Tuesdays and
Thursdays,
on dates to be announced, beginning in
early October . Registration
forms will be in the school office
by the end of the second week of school
and will
close on the earlier of:
a) 25 registrations received; or,
b) The last Friday (28th) in September.
A reminder of this class will be published in the Middle school newsletter to parents
and in posters prominently displayed throughout the school.
The class will meet on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays (
5 meetings in all): from 2:15 - 4:15 Students must
attend each class meeting and score
at least 80% on the written examination
SPRING CLASS
REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OFFICE
THREE WEEKS BEFORE STARTING DATE FOR THE SPRING CLASS
Registrations must be received in the school office no later than two weeks
before the starting date of the class.

A written examination will be administered at the conclusion of the program, Students are required to attend all meetings of the class When the course begins, the correct answers to the homework questions PARENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION
This course meets all National and State
formal instructional requirements for certification of power boat
operators. Successful completion of this course will result in the students' entitlement to a Massachusetts Boating Safety Certificate, permitting the operation of
power boats by minors between the ages of 12 and 16, without on-board adult
supervision
There is no charge for this course. However, a text book deposit of $20 is required, which will be returned at the conclusion of the course if textbooks are returned in undamaged condition. The Subject Matter Includes: PARENTS !

EACH DAY AFTER CLASS, NO LATER THAN 4:45 PM
As this course progresses, the instructional staff encourages continued parental support of the students active participation in the essential reading and related homework assignments.
Parents are also invited to attend any of the meetings of the class, to obtain a 'first hand' knowledge of what is being presented to the students.

BOATING SAFETY SMALL BOAT HANDLING STATE & FEDERAL REGULATIONS
RULES OF THE ROAD AIDS TO NAVIGATION SEAMANSHIP REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
at 7 PM in the cafeteria of the Middle School.
This course includes, but to a much greater extent, the boating safety information contained in the Middle School course for children and expands into chart reading, use of the mariners' compass, position finding, course plotting, speed, time and distance calculations, and fundamentals of coastal navigation.
Are you going to be as prepared as your children ? The sea, like the air, is not inherently dangerous but it is unforgiving of the lack of knowledge. Parents are cordially invited to join us without obligation, Wednesday evening March 8th, for the introductory lecture, and see what an advanced level course can do for your family's increased safety and boating enjoyment !
