NOVEMBER MEETING - November 26
Bare Cove Power Squadron members enjoyed a terrific evening of good food, great camaraderie and a spell-binding talk by our guest speaker, Captain Skip DeBrusk, author of “Codfish, Dogfish, Mermaids and Frank”.
Skip provided some vignettes of his true story of a young man coming of age on a commercial fishing boat based in Plymouth, Skip spoke of a by-gone era when fish were plentiful and our way of life was simpler.
Skip spoke with respect and admiration for his mentor and employer, Captain Frank Savery, an ex-prisoner of the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Alcatraz. Skip praised Frank for sharing his natural gifts of curiosity, leadership and the importance of education along with the value of hard work, risk and rewards, all as the Captain of the J.L. Stanley and Sons.
BCSPS members who have read or are currently reading Skip’s book unanimously voiced the same opinion – it’s well-written and enjoyable.
