WHO ARE WE?

We are your friends and neighbors, people you see on the street.

We are a group of friendly people who have a common interest in boating, both POWER and SAIL boats. Some of our members DO NOT own a boat.

All of our members have passed the BOATING COURSE EXAMINATION.

WHERE ARE WE?

Beaufort Sail and Power Squadron is about half way between Savannah GA and Charleston SC - our members live in areas which include the St. Helena Sound, the Beaufort River, the Port Royal Sound, Station Creek, Fripp Island, Lucy Creek, Dataw Island, St. Helena Island, Lady's Island, Callawassie Creek, Hazard Creek, Whale Branch, Beaufort, Port Royal, Burton, Chowan Creek and associated areas.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We provide civic services, including a Boating Course for the public, free boat safety inspections, providing public information on safe boating and collecting updated information about local waters to assist NOAA in upgrading official nautical charts.

Our members expand their knowledge and enjoyment of boating by taking additional Power Squadron educational courses, which are held at local training facilities.

We have a monthly Squadron dinner meeting which is preceded by a social hour. Normally there is a guest speaker on a subject either related to boating or of local interest.

Except in the winter, Squadron boating activities are held monthly. These include cruises, where we travel to various local destinations, and Sunday "Raft-Ups", where we meet on the water for lunch and sociability. Several times a year planned weekend boat trips are held which test our skills in getting to and from a destination. These activities are always enjoyable outings with fellow Squadron members.

Our members help in work tasks, large and small, to meet our Squadron's goals.

WHAT IS THE BEAUFORT SAIL AND POWER SQUADRON?

We are a unit of District 26 of the United States Power Squadrons, which is dedicated to fulfilling the three functions of being a Fraternal Boating Club which provides Self Education to it's members and Civic Service to the community.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE UNITED STATES POWER SQUADRON?

Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. USPS has some 60,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.

That's who we are and what we do - thanks for taking the time to learn about us.
