OUR BURGEE

JUNE 1961: A letter from District 26 Commander Luther Hanie, approved Beaufort Power Squadron's request for pennant (burgee) design. Commander James Hicks, our first squadron commander, and Lt Commander Markie Mayfield, our first squadron secretary, designed the pennant (burgee). These two were highly decorated Navy submariners during World War II. In true Navy tradition, a fabric collage of signal flags spelled out Bravo, Sierra, Charlie - Beaufort South Carolina.

The burgee recipe: Take three Navy signal flags....

... PLUS... ... PLUS...

Combine them into a collage in the shape of a pennant and you get the Beaufort Sail & Power Squadron burgee.
