Boating Education

BOAT SMART is an eight hour course useful to all boaters. Cost is $25.00 per person to cover the cost of the book, course and testing materials, etc. Additional family members who wish to share a book may take the class for an additional $5.00 per person to cover course and testing materials costs. The course is of interest to the whole family and we encourage families to attend as a group. The instructors for the course are experienced sail and power boaters from the Bluegrass Sail and Power Squadron.

The BOAT SMART course is designed to meet the educational requirements specified by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. The United States Power Squadrons® awards a Safe Boating Certificate and wallet card to all students who successfully complete the BOAT SMART Course. The certificate and card are recognized by Kentucky and other states requiring boating certification. Many insurance companies also offer a discount on premiums for those who hold a Safe Boating Certificate.

Prospective Bluegrass Sail and Power Squadron members must first pass the BOAT SMART course to be eligible for membership.

BOAT SMART is offered at least twice each year, usually in Spring and Fall.
