History of the Bluegrass Sail and Power Squadron

The Bluegrass Sail and Power Squadron is a private nonprofit boating organization that has been active in North-Central Kentucky since being chartered in 1971. Our first Squadron Commander was David Johnson of Frankfort, Kentucky. We are one of almost 450 squadrons around the country that make up the United States Power Squadrons®, which was formed in 1914. The United States Power Squadrons® is the world's largest private, non-profit boating organization. We are concerned with boating education, safety and FUN. Prospective members must first pass the boating course offered to the public to be eligible to apply for membership.

We have about 75 members from within approximately a one hundred and fifty mile radius of Lexington, Kentucky. Our members include power boaters, sailors, and those that are "between boats".
