SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

In addition to self-education courses for our members, and boating and safety classes for the general public, we in the Boca Ciega Sail and Power Squadron, also have a lot of fun!!!

Comprised of social, friendly and outgoing.people, we have activities throughout the year that can get you dancing, laughing, eating and rendezvousing. For example, the year starts out with a Change of Watch dinner. New officers are sworn in, and awards are given to those who have given of their time and expertise to the squadron. The semi-formal gala features hors d’oeuvres, drinks, dinner, dancing, and lots of great company at one of the lovely restaurants along the Gulf Boulevard area.
Of course this is followed by the annual Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day parties. The squadron building is festively decorated for each event, and of course, there is food, music and dancing. Ditto for Thanksgiving and Christmas when all squadron members truly get into the holiday spirit, again with good food, music and dancing.
Springtime brings our annual Kite Fly-in. This year it was held at Fort DeSoto Park..
Sprinkled throughout the year are Bingo/Pizza nights. This is when local chefs join us at the squadron building and make pizza before your very eyes. Later, if you’re lucky, you could win one of the five Bingo pots of the evening. There are door prizes, too!!
Twice a year we have a "Trash and Treasure Sale" at the Squadron building to help empty out members' closets.
Monthly Meeting: Every month during the general meeting, a boating-related program follows with various and interesting speakers. These are also occassions for new members being sworn in.
Let’s Rendezvous: Two or three times a year, members enjoy rendezvous cruises on water and land Those who don’t have boats can drive to some of the locations, others can hook up with their new friends on their boats. Again, food and fun entertainment is the key to these successful outings.
Click on this link to look up the boating activities that USPS has listed. You will need your member number and ZIP code to access the list.
A Past Commanders Night is held in November, honoring those who have served the squadron in its highest capacity.
Remember, you don’t need a boat to join the Boca Ciega Sail & Power Squadron, just a love of the water, and keeping alive the values of good safe boating. It is open to all, and we hope you join us.
