Our Safety
Checks provide you an opportunity to discuss the function of marine
safety equipment, to clarify the various Federal, State, and local
regulations you sail under, to understand specific safety procedures
and practices, and to get answers to any boating related questions
you have.
The
equipment you carry is categorized in three ways:
- MUST BE
CARRIED by law (Fire Flotation
Navigation Lights
Visual Signaling)
- NEEDED BUT
NOT REQUIRED by law
- NICE TO
HAVE along
USPS
courtesy examiners will check that you have the "must have"
equipment. You cannot qualify for the Safety Check Certificate if
you don't.
The
examiners will also check your other equipment and offer experienced
comments on your selections. Look here for a list of the most common issues preventing obtaining a Safety Check Certificate.
Founded in
1914, USPS is the world's oldest, largest nonprofit boating education
organization. Its 60,000 plus members are dedicated to boating safety
and education. Many squadron members are also members of the Auxiliary
and have already received the necessary training to conduct Vessel
Safety Checks.
If you would
like to make an appointment for one of our trained examiners to
inspect your boat and safety equipment, use this LINK to contact your closest examiner. The inspection is FREE and there
is NO obligation on the owner's part to comply with any resulting
recommendations. Also, no report will be made to USCG, if the boat
fails to pass. |
