Lake Outings

Several times each year our members plan a day trip to one of the area lakes. Here is the story of a typical outing:

Lake Murray Outing a Great Success

Our boat outing to Lake Murray was a great success with a beautiful day, good food and excellent seamanship. Read the rest of the story ...here

Lake Wateree Outing

Our first out of town and on-the-water event of the season was the Squadron Social hosted by Cdr. Gary McWhirter at his family's lakeside home on Lake Wateree. The date was Saturday, 13 May. This turned out to be the perfect date. Four boats were available, and a total of twenty people enjoyed the day. The cookout was great, and was topped off with delicious desserts brought by several members.

On the water, it was warm and a bit breezy at times, but overall a good breakout day for boaters getting on the water for the first time this season. It did seem a little odd to see P/C Berry Mobley gently piloting the McWhirter pontoon boat slowly through the water. However, Berry's usual race horse style was assumed by Matt England, who provided thrill rides in his seven passenger, twin jet drive Sea Doo. As this low profile water rocket skimmed the surface, water came over the bow and hats and loose clothing flew over the stern. Exhaust noise prevented any hearing of conversation, but I believe that shotgun riding passenger. Will Jordan, was actually daring Matt to 'kick It'.

All things considered, the day was about as good as it gets, and if you missed it - Well, You Missed It!
