First Prize at
the Lexington Parade - Again!

With the parade theme of "Preserving
the Spirit of 1775", Charles River Sail and Power Squadron
members joined in the Patriot's Day Parade at Lexington, MA,
with a replica of the Beaver, the ship at the center of the Boston
Tea Party. The judges must have thought our float matched that
theme when they gave us the "First Place Civic" award!
In fact they were so impressed that one award wasn't enough,
but since they didn't have a "best in parade" category,
they also gave us a "Second Place Civic" award as well!
Our Boston Tea Party float looked
so authentic, the British regiment of Redcoats stopped by to
inspect the tea boxes before the parade.
The "Colonials" were
properly dressed in Indian attire to confuse the British, while
the banner on the back of the pickup truck advertises "Safe
Boating Through Education".
The makeup artist applies
Indian facepaint ....
... and headgear is adjusted
before the parade.
The Beaver sails are
prepared ...
... and the Award is
attached!
After the parade, members and
friends gathered for a supper social and celebration. Everyone
enjoyed some cooling beverages, appetizers, chicken pie, salads,
and desserts.
All around, it was a successful
and fun-filled day!
