MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS There was a very large turnout for our membership meeting on July 12th at the waterfront home of Pete and Jane Duvoisin and everyone had a good time. Pete and Jane were great hosts, providing refreshments for the attitude adjustment period that preceded the delicious meal of rib-eye steak grilled by Norm Oien. Their deck and grounds were an ideal venue for the meeting and their dock was used by several members who came by boat. Minutes of the membership meeting were prepared by our Squadron Secretary, Sandy Schoonmaker, and is included in this issue of the C-Way. There is another opportunity coming up for squadron members and guests to get together and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our renowned Chef de Cuisine, Norm Oien. On August 16th, he'll be grilling Island "Jerk" Chicken on the Boat Club Dock at Island Cove Marina. Inspired perhaps by a "limbo dance stick" the price has been set at a low, low $8.00 and you can BYOB. As usual, we'll start to gather at 6:00 pm and have dinner at about 7:00 pm. I'll be staying out of Norm's way while he's cooking, but I hope others will join me in helping to set things up before dinner and clean up afterward. The September 13th meeting will also be held on the Boat Club Dock at Island Cove Marina. Herman and JoAnn Green are hosting this event and are planning a "Margaritaville" theme. There will be more about this in the next issue of the C-Way. The next two meetings will be at Privateer Yacht Club. We'll have "Oktoberfest" on Friday, October 17th, and the chili dinner on Saturday, November 22nd (a date change). BRIDGE MEETINGS The Squadron Bridge and Executive Committee will meet at 5:00 pm, one hour before the start of the next membership meeting on the Boat Club Dock at Island Cove Marina on August 16th. Other interested squadron members are welcome to attend. |

VOLUNTEERS FOR HSC KIDS DAY
Saturday, August 02, 2008 the Highland Sportsman Club and Sportsman Warehouse presented a great learning opportunity for kids. Joe Blass, Don and Linda Grotjan enhanced this learning opportunity by showing various life jackets and giving out literature about our boating classes. They emphasized the importance of the proper size for the size of the child and that you must "Wear It" to be boating safely. Joe demonstrated the inflatable life jacket and told about some unique PFD’s provided for the demonstration by Ed Ford.

Membership Meeting
12 July 2008
Home of Pete and Jane Duvoisin
There were over 50 members and guests in attendance for the annual Steak Fry.
Cdr. Joe Blass called the meeting to order at 2000.
Cdr. Blass welcomed all the Atlanta members as well as Jim Barkley of the Knoxville Squadron.
Cdr. Blass introduced new members Ron and Mark Childress as well as Eric Childress who was unable to attend. The new members were sworn in.
Cdr. Blass presented Membership Chairman Lorraine Ford with the Power of One Pin, awarded by National for her efforts at signing up new members.
Cdr. Blass reported that the Executive Committee had met and passed a Motion to change the dues structure to match that of National and District. To do so requires the vote of the membership. To this end a motion was made that "the Primary Active Member shall pay the full squadron dues and the additional active/family group will pay one-half the dues. Motion seconded and carried.
Cdr. Blass then thanked Norm Oien for once again preparing a wonderful meal and he thanked Pete and Jane Duvoisin for opening up their home for the event. Applause followed.
Cdr. Blass thanked Ed and Lorraine Ford for the Squadron Directories that they were distributing to members in attendance.
A reminder that the next meeting on 16 August will be held at Island Cover Marina and will be cooked by chef extrodinaire Norm Oien.
Meeting adjourned at 2030.

CHATTANOOGA LOSES PAST COMMANDER
We recently learned of the death of our beloved Past Commander (1999) and P/D/Lt/C Barbara J, Sargent, AP.
She was preceded in death by her husband, P/C Chester Sargent, AP (1988).
Barbara was first and foremost a tireless champion and devotee of our Squadron and District 17, where she served many terms as District Secretary. Her incredible energy and talent will be remembered by her many friends at the local, District and National level.
A memorial service is planned this fall to spread her ashes on Chickamauga Lake, a locale which meant so much to her.
