A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE ....
I
suppose we are all thinking about Thanksgiving and what we will be doing to
celebrate this special time of the year.
I
hope you will join me in thanking our creator for our freedoms and our
prosperity. For me I am also most thankful for each of you and for the
significant progress our squadron has made over the past year.
In
my opinion this has been the best year ever in that we have had great diversity
and participation at all our
membership/event gatherings. (It takes a lot of people to make this
happen and I thank each of you for your contributions.) Plus, we have had the
generous support of so many members in helping to set-up and clean-up after
meetings and training sessions.
In
reflecting back together let's recall the dinner and dancing at Ari's
Restaurant, led by Jo Ann and Herman Green. Then there was the Ahi Tuna dinner
with Jim and Kay Pilkenton's presentation at Fox Cay on their retirement cruise
to Florida and back. I think of the On-the-Water events that were so much fun,
three at the Island Cove Boat Club docks, one at the home of the Duvoisin's,
and the great joint squadron weekend at Terrace View on the Tennessee River
above Watts Bar Dam. The St. Patrick's Party at PYC at which Denny and Carol
Gustafson shared their Great Loop travels with us, and the annual Fish Fry at
Jack and Rachel Vincent's property on the Hiwassee River attended by 7 boats
from Knoxville Squadron. Just last month, the fun filled afternoon and evening
at the beautiful home of Bob and Gail McMahan where we enjoyed yard games, an
interesting presentation and a gourmet meal... not to mention the fun and
fellowship of each others company! Thank you lord for all you have given us!

And
there is more to come. If you haven't made it to an event this year, be sure
not to miss the Annual Morgan Brother's Chili supper, Saturday, November 17, at
PYC. You will not be disappointed! We will also have a guest speaker. Cindy
McCrosky , a Sailor and Counselor, speaking on the Annual Chattanooga River
Clean Up Event. Joe Blass and Don Grotjan will report on our participation in
the Head of the Hooch Rowing Event.
Remember
the Christmas Party December 15th at Lloyd and Molly Cox's home. Be
sure to bring two unwrapped gifts, one for a boy and one for a girl, as our
civic project for Christmas. These will be delivered to the Samaritan Center
for families who due to illness or loss of employment are unable to provide for
their families Christmas.
I am grateful for the positive and generous
response from new and old members to become instructors and conduct training
sessions for both the Public Safety Boating Courses and Member Boating courses.
I thank each of you who, under the leadership of Molly Cox and Jack Everett,
have done and are continuing to do such a fantastic job!

In
grateful appreciation,
John

Commander
WELCOME ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
CSPS
welcomes two new associate members, Tim and Barbara Tyson. Members of the Atlanta Squadron for five years,
the Tysons recently moved their boat from Lake Lanier to the Chickamauga Marina
here in Chattanooga.
Tim
and Barbara have announced that they have donated $100.00 in the names of Norm
Oien and the Chattanooga Sail & Power Squadron to a newly formed
scholarship fund to be available to children who reside at the Calvary
Children’s Home in Powder Springs, Georgia.
The
fund, the Anne and David Tyson and Vivian and Bud Boyan Scholarship Fund will
award cash to young adults who leave the children’s home to attend a school of
advanced learning. The children’s home
provides a secure and loving environment for children who are otherwise lost in
the foster care system with little hope of success. A large percentage of the youngsters from Calvary go onto a technical
school, community college or four year university. It is these children whom Tim and Barbara wish to help with a
cash donation that can be used to help make the transition into a new school
life easier.
If
any members are interested in helping the Tysons with their scholarship fund,
please contact Tim and Barbara at: 2481
King Arthur Cir NE, Atlanta, GA 30345.
Copies
of the Calvary Children’s Home Newsletter will be available at the November
meeting.
