Photos and Activities for the Month of March

Piloting Class ends

The month of March started off with an ending. The Piloting class that has been running for the last 8 weeks finished up and the students have their exams. So good luck to the class, not that they will need it.

There is common expression to say "Lost my bearings" to mean that you are lost or confused. This expression, like many in English, is a carryover from old shipboard slang. Taking bearings on shore objects and then plotting them on a chard  is an important part of basic navigation. Our students will not lose their bearings.

March Member Meeting

The March Meeting was held at the Privateer Yacht Club and was a Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner. After the dinner we had a speaker from Tow Boat US, Captain Shane O'Neal. The Captain gave a talk on hazards on the river and how Tow Boat can be of assistance.

District 17 Spring Conference

The spring conference was held in Nashville this year and our own John DiPrima was sworn in as District Commander by the Chief Commander's Representative R/C Jeff C. Hamilton, AP. In the photo below John is swearing in his new Bridge, which includes another member Don Grotjan SN as secretary.

Our Squadron Received a number of awards at the Conference and AO Sue Kuemmel was kept busy standing in for the absentee Commander.  The squadron won recognition awards for the WEB site, the newsletter and for its contribution to the Educational Fund.  Here Sue is accepting the 25th Year Award for member P/C Bill Williamson.

We had 17 members attending the conference, two of whom for the first time. Roger and Laura Smith joined the group on Saturday for the afternoon meetings, COW and the fun time at the Grand Old Opry.

ABC TWRA CLASS

Our Spring ABC class is winding down and it will soon be test time. In addition to the ABC test we offer students the option to take the TWRA test so they can get their Tennessee Boating Certificate, required by anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989.
