Vessel Safety Examiner Class
We need more Vessel Examiners for the Charleston Sail and Power Squadron. This is a great service that we can do for the entire boating community and it gives us a chance to be out promoting safe boating and the Squadron. So---we will be conducting a new class for Examiners open to all members. I would also like to encourage more ladies to take the class. So far we only have one lady examiner and it would be nice to have more. Ladies if you have questions about this, call Angie Wright at 843-729-3311 or email awright@gates.com.
The class will be March 15, 2008 starting at 0900 hrs at the Squadron Headquarters. Bring your own lunch. After the class we will take the exam (during lunch) and then proceed to River's Edge Marina to do 5 supervised vessel checks to complete the certification process. Yes this takes most of the day but it is worth it No matter how experienced a boater you are, you will learn valuable insights into what makes a safe boat. Also, you will learn how to help others to be safer on the water.
The instructor will be Harl Porter and you may contact him ( email 107Harl@sc.rr.com or phone 843-832-9423) or me for further information. The Examiner's training manual can be down loaded from the following web site http://safetyseal.net/manuals/VSC_Manual.pdf. This is a Coast Guard certified course.
