Welcome to the United States Power Squadrons®, America's Boating Club® .
Organized in Boston in 1914, America's Boating Club® is a nation-wide volunteer organization of sailors, kayakers, power-boaters, paddle boarders and canoeists dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable through civic service, education, and fellowship on the water.
District 12 is located in the Greater Boston area, our area includes much of Eastern Massachusetts from Plymouth and the South Shore, west to Natick and Worcester and northeast to Cape Ann. Our district currently consists of 7 chapters, or as we call them squadrons, with approximately 650 members. District 14 of Cape Cod, Buzzards Bay and Newport, is an adjacent district of similar size and boaters. The other Districts around the country and the Canadian Power Squadrons to our north also provide the same commitment to safety on the water through education.
We teach over two dozen courses and seminars for everyone from the novice boater to the off-shore cruiser. Our courses include seamanship, navigation, paddle-craft, weather, sail trim, engine maintenance, marine electronics and many other related subjects. We teach in classrooms, on the water, and with a boating simulator. We have over 30,000 members across the country. We are America's largest non-profit boating organization and have been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions during times of peace and conflict.
In addition to our educational offerings, we work with the Coast Guard Auxiliary to provide Vessel Safety Checks, and with the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association) to support nautical chart updates and to report discrepancies. And, we know how to have fun! We have cruises, shore-side gatherings in the summer, dinner socials, and guest speakers during the winter such as Richard Wilson, who recently finished the Vendee Globe round the world circumnavigation. We invite you all to Come for the education, and Stay for the Friends℠.
