Commander’s Report

Fall Conference - need speaker or demo possibilities.

I just heard this morning the SMAST people are not available that weekend.

The simulator is confirmed for the entire weekend. Tom G D12 DEO is overseeing that.

May also need/want something for spouses to do during Sat meeting time.

Do we want to do a dinner Sat night like last time? Or go out?

Regardless of what we decide, I'd really like to make a good showing since CC Baldridge will be in attendance.

Governing Board report

I will get the whole report typed up ASAP but in the meantime:

Dues are going up $2 this May - will likely go up again for several more years.

There was some squabbling about why Life Memberships are still the Third Rail of USPS politics while the ever-shrinking dues-payer numbers are getting hit. The numbers can't possibly be self-sustaining. But it was squashed quickly. Obviously still the Third Rail - no one at the top will touch that subject.

Some changes in Member Benefits - things are always in flux - AT&T and Verizon are both gone -but new ones are coming in. If you're off-Cape, the Office Depot discounts are huge, but you must have THEIR card, not our membership card. They do all the HQ printing their discounts are so good. BoatUS has a membership code on the website that mentions using code GA80000P. It appears to work - Bob Elder used it the other night and was able to join at the reduced rate.

This is the page where I found it - there are dozens, but BoatUS is near the top:

National Meetings

National meeting will be in Orlando at Rosen Center for next 3 years at least (after this January in JAX). Governing Board is in San Diego next year. No word on year after yet - probably in January is past history is any indication.

Probably lots more I'm forgetting...

District Council Agenda for October
Pledge of Allegiance
Invocation
Secretary reports a quorum

Fall Conference:
• Partial agenda is on a separate sheet
• We are still looking for some speaker possibilities to fill in spaces.
• Any interest in a dinner group out? D12 will have a larger group going out since many of their people will stay over. Ours tend to dayhop.
• Don't forget that C/C Robert Baldridge and his wife are coming. They are very personable and good company. It should be a pleasant weekend with them.

Budget Committee
Has a budget to present for next year - Carl Johnson will present

Education committee
• George Hallenbeck is coming from D2 (Fairfield County). He is reportedly an expert with the Virtual Trainer, being instrumental in designing and procuring the units for USPS.

• DEO Jack Marsden ran an OTW Training weekend after all at the last minute. He can report on it. By all reports, it was very successful despite the last minute nature of it being reactivated. We thought it had been canceled due to lack of interest, I didn't ask for the day off from work. And hello?!?!? Suddenly there was a session after all due to a sudden interest. Fortunately, CCSPS people stepped up and pitched in as they always do and made it a success.

Bridge Breakfast Meetings
Must be moved due to IHOP's impending closure. This month (Oct. 29) we are trying the Sagamore Friendly's, alongside the commuter lot. If it works, perhaps we'll keep going there. Or we can try another suggestion. We're flexible.

News from squadrons I know about - add anything as needed
(it helps to have an easy record for the Spring Conference End-of-Bridge-Year summary)

• CCSPS P/C George Pettengill, who just became a Life Member at this year's National Meeting, passed away in July after a long illness. A large contingent of CCSPS members attended his services.

• P/D/C Leroy DeCesare passed away a month ago after a short illness. Several USPS members from the District attended his services.

• Edwina Marsden was awarded her 25-year membership last week at the CCSPS September
