.............(25 March 2006) pdf file
(link is not working at this time 6/15/06 10:36 AM)
Thanks to the efforts of P/C Dan Bartell and R/C Patricia Governale, USPS
has recently activated an on-line registration process for potential students to
pre-register for the squadron public boating classes. Click on the link above to
learn more. This is an easy internet tool developed for squadrons that don't
already have this service available on their web sites. This is an optional tool
for squadron use. Follow the directions
regards setting this up for your students to use, then put a link to the set up
screen for ease of use by the public.
Once on the department home page scroll down to archives of current and past copies. These editions require Adobe Acrobat reader to view and print. To print .pdf files, be sure to click on the PRINTER ICON on the left of the bar across the top of the Acrobat Reader window; do NOT use Print from the browser File menu.
A brief introduction,
The Vessel Traffic Service Puget Sound (VTS) is a marine traffic service operated by the United States Coast Guard in Seattle. Also known as "Seattle Traffic," we provide navigational assistance to the maritime community of Puget Sound similar to the methods used by the FAA in providing air traffic control to aviators.
Your responsibilities
Unless specifically directed by the VTS, the recreational boater is exempt from participation with the VTS in all but the required conduct that governs ALL vessels in, or near a TSS -reference Rule 10 for International Waters as established by the International Maritime Organization, and published in the Navigation Rules by the USCG. This is also found in our own publication, the VTS User's Manual.
