Cooperative
Charting ProgramThe Cooperative Charting Program (CoCh Program) of the United States Power Squadrons is conducted in close coordination with the Marine Chart Division, National Ocean Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Program is a major public service of USPS. Under it, members supply information to the Marine Chart Division of NOS/NOAA leading to corrections to nautical charts, small craft charts, and Coast Pilot publications.

Cooperative Charting Committees
The
CoCh Program was initiated in 1963 and is a joint effort between the United
States Power Squadrons (USPS) and the National Ocean Service (NOS). The USPS
is a volunteer staff of over 2800 participants that collects field data that
can be used to improve the quality of NOS products.
Squadron committees form group outings to do Nautical Chart Update
Surveys, Range Line Surveys, US Coast Pilot Updates, Small-Craft Facility
Reports or Depth Surveys.
Entering data into the on-line Boating Guide to America is a fairly recent
program included in CoCh.
Boating Guide to America is like a "boating destinations" version of
Wikipedia.
These are all fun activities and
quite a learning experience for all who participate. As a member retention
tool it's fabulous. To get involved contact your squadron CoCh committee
chairperson and or your commander.
