USPS History and District 6The United States Power Squadrons (USPS) is a non-profit, family-oriented organization for recreational boaters. USPS members donate their time and resources to educate fellow members and the public in all aspects of boating. USPS promotes safe boating through education and other civic services. Started as a club within the Boston Yacht Club during the early 1900s, USPS was founded on 2 February 1914 during a meeting at the New York Yacht Club. Click here to read about the history of USPS. Founders Day is celebrated annually by local USPS squadrons. During the 1930s, local squadrons were chartered in Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse. These grew to form the 18 squadrons in USPS District 6. This page last updated 31 August 2007. |
