Your
Learning
The core mission of US Power
Squadrons is the education of
the public and our members in safe and enjoyable boating.
Having completed the
Public Boating course we
encourage you to take our advanced and elective courses.
These classes will broaden
your boating
knowledge, build your confidence, enhance the safety of you, your
family and
guests, and of those boating near you.
Advanced
Grade courses Seamanship and Piloting
will be offered every year if there are 6 students enrolled. Other
advanced
grade and elective courses will be
offered every other year and must have at least 6 students enrolled.
Please
contact the Squadron Education Officer (SEO)
when you are interested in a specific course.
Members may
also self study a course and test on their
own. All you pay
for is the
textbook. You may
also like to form a
study group yourself with a few of your friends, working
through the material and asking for
assistance from an instructor if necessary for certain parts. Again, the only cost is
for the textbook.

Your
Teaching
Our members teach all Duluth
Power Squadron classes. We
value your
boating experience, knowledge
and skill and we encourage you to pass on this knowledge to the public
and
other members. There
are many
opportunities to do this:
Attend a Squadron Boating Course to visit
with the students
While at Squadron Boating Course, observe
the instructor and begin
picturing yourself in that role.
Public boating is
taught in 8 sessions of 15 chapters with
86 major topics covered. Identify
one
or more you are familiar with and teach it in the next class.
As you get comfortable, consider becoming qualified
to teach
the Squadron
Boating Course by enrolling in Instructor
Development.
Call Kay
Bakke,

developing your role as
instructor. Thank
you.
