Captain's Platter Fishing Contest

 

This is strictly a fun tournament!!
This is not a fund raiser.
All entry fees will be given out in prizes.

Where: Lake Superior and St. Louis River

When:  Saturday, June 14, 2008

Time:   6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Prizes awarded at 5 p.m.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each of
the following five categories:


1  Walleye,
2  King Salmon (Chinook)
3  Lake Trout,
4  Other Salmon (Coho, Humpies, Atlantic)
5  Captain's Platter-Combined weight of largest fish of each species caught by the boat.


Register early and enjoy a hot dog
dinner on Friday, June 13, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the
Duluth Sail and PowerSquadron Dock.

There will also be drawings for door prizes.

Amount of prizes will be determined by the number of entries. 100% of entry fees will be given out in prizes.

Brats and chips for sale from 3 to 5 p.m.


RULES

PARTICIPANTS AND ELIGIBILITY

A.        Registration requires payment plus a completed and signed registration and liability release form. These may be mailed on or before Tuesday, June 3, 2008. You may also apply in person by coming to the Duluth Sail & Power Squadron dock on Friday, June 13th between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. or on Saturday, June 14th between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Each Angler must comply with all State, Local. and Federal fishing and boating regulations for the St. Louis River and Lake Superior.

 

SAFETY AND SPORTSMANSHIP

 

A.        Entrants must conduct themselves in a true sportsmanlike manner. Courtesy,safety and ethics of the best behavior are the norm and not the exception. Remember that you represent not only yourselves but all tournament anglers and the sport of fishing. Rude or insulting behavior will not be tolerated and may be cause for disqualification.

 

FISH AND FISHING

 

A.        This is a fishing tournament. Only those walleyes, lake trout, or salmon caughton hook and line in a conventional sporting manner will be accepted for weigh-in.

B.        Although keeping fish in aerated live-wells or coolers to keep the fish alive and as fresh as possible is allowed, sorting is not. You may not release any fish after it has been placed in alive well or fish box.

C.        Places are determined by fish weight and time entered.

D.        The starting time for fishing is any time after 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 14th.

E.         You must start and end your fishing day on the St. Louis River. You may fish anywhere on Lake Superior, the St. Louis River, and its estuaries or the Nemadji River.

F.         Each entrant may register only one fish of each species. Weigh-in of all fish will take place at the Power Squadron Dock at Allouez Bay. The Weigh-in station will open at 2 p.m. and will close at 4 p.m. Any contestants in line at 4 p.m. will be allowed to register their fish.

G.        No culling or live-well sorting is allowed. Any fish you take into possession, which you do not release immediately, is part of your daily bag limit even if it is released later. (This is the law.)

 

CONTEST FORMAT

 

A.        This is an open format. You can start fishing at any time after 6 a.m. but you don't have to start that early. Please note that you will not be able to register for participation in the tournament after 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008.

B.        Prizes will be awarded by the tournament judges according to place. Place willbe determined by weight. In case of a tie, places will be awarded according to time registered.

C.        All weigh-ins and prize decisions will be determined after 10 a.m. on June 14th when registration closes.

D.        Amount of prizes to be awarded to which place will be determined after 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14th when registrations close.

 

All rules have "loopholes". It is the intention of the Duluth Sail & Power Squadron to provide an honest sportsmanlike tournament. In the interest of good sportsmanship, contestants are reminded that the "Spirit of the Rule" will prevail. All questions, judgments, or problems during the tournament will be referred to the Tournament Directors. Tournament Directors will have sole authority and jurisdiction in determining the application of the Tournament Rules and Regulations.

Important Notes:

1. If the boat you are fishing from has a 2008 Vessel Safety Check sticker on it (on or before June 14th), let us know. You'll be entered into a drawing for a prize.

 

2. All fish must be dead when weighed.

 3. Weigh only one fish per species for each entrant.

 4. The Captain's Platter award will go to the boat with the greatest combined weight of the largest fish of each species caught on that boat. You do not need to register one of each species to enter the Captain's Platter. It would be possible to win if you caught just one very large fish.

The Duluth Sail & Power Squadron dock is located just inside the Superior Entry in Allouez Bay. The Duluth- Superior Harbor chart shows it.

 

To get to the Duluth Sail & Power Squadron dock by car, go east out of Superior on Highway 2 & 53. On 39th Avenue East, turn left at the stoplights. Go 2 blocks. Turn right on Itasca Street. Go 5 blocks. Turn left on 44th Avenue East. This road will take you out to the
 Squadron dock.
