Course Description
Seamanship - Improve your Boating Skills
The United States Power Squadrons Seamanship course focuses on skillful and safe operation of recreational boats, both power and sail. New this year: computer Virtual Trainer for hands-on practice. Taught by a skipper with 30 years' experience and guests who link class teaching with on-the-water boating.
Topics covered:
- Responsibilities of the skipper for boat and crew
- Hull design and performance, both sail and power
- Dockside and lock maneuvering
- Boat handling at sea in light and heavy wind
- Rules of the Road
- Anchoring in various conditions
- Emergencies on the water, including man overboard
- The "Must Know" knots
