Course Description

Seamanship - Improve your Boating Skills

The United States Power Squadrons Seamanship course focuses on skillful and safe operation of recreational boats, both power and sail. New this year: computer Virtual Trainer for hands-on practice. Taught by a skipper with 30 years' experience and guests who link class teaching with on-the-water boating.

Topics covered:

  • Responsibilities of the skipper for boat and crew
  • Hull design and performance, both sail and power
  • Dockside and lock maneuvering
  • Boat handling at sea in light and heavy wind
  • Rules of the Road
  • Anchoring in various conditions
  • Emergencies on the water, including man overboard
  • The "Must Know" knots
