The Grosse Pointe Power Squadron is a local unit of the United States Power Squadrons®, Sail and Power Boating. USPS is a non-profit all volunteer teaching organization. Our primary purpose is to educate the public in safe boating.
The first Power Squadron was organized in May of 1912 in the Boston Marblehead, Massachusetts area. On February 2, 1914, the United States Power Squadrons was formally organized and incorporated. The Grosse Pointe Power Squadron was organized on February 7, 1939 with the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club as it's formal sponsor. The GPYC has since allowed us to use their facilities for our meetings, classes and social events. Note: Yacht Club membership is not required to be a member of the Grosse Pointe Power Squadron.
The Grosse Pointe Power Squadron is a very active squadron, teaching three 10 week Basic Boating classes per year and several 4 week Boat Smart Classes to members of the general public. We also teach the advanced grade and elective classes to our membership. See Member Education for more information on these classes.
In addition to our Education Mission we also have many social events, with boat rendezvous' a popular summer time activity.
