Who Are We:

United States Power squadron (USPS) is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-military organization of adult boaters and their families.  Men and women who are socially compatible and have a common love and appreciation for the sport of boating. There are no barriers to membership on the basis of race, religion, or ethnic background. The national organization is comprised of some 50,000 members in approximately 450 squadrons in most states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and distant areas where there are Americans. Organized in 1914, USPS is the world's largest private boating organization. It was original founded in 1913 as a club within the Boston Yacht Club. Although the name may say "Power Squadron," sailors are welcome and 40% of our members are sailors.

Our Purpose:

      1. To educate each other in all aspects of boating.
      2. To promote safe boating through classes offered to the public at a nominal book fee, to assist the National Boating Service, perform Co-op charting functions for NOAA, and to promote safety awareness.
      3. To enjoy social camaraderie on-water and on-land.

Further Information:

The Grand Traverse Bay Power Squadron is located near Traverse City in the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.  We are right on Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan, which offers many opportunities for great freshwater sailing.  But our great sand beaches and rolling forested hills beckon for all four-seasons.  Join us for a day or a month or a lifetime!
