Member Meetings and Events
The Hartford Power Squadron holds seven member meetings during the year. These meetings are primarily social with each having a program of general interest to boaters. Members get to talk with fellow boaters about their boating experiences and many life-long friendships have been kindled among our members.
The Annual Meeting in March is an important meeting for all members. It includes reports by the outgoing Bridge officers, the approval of the budget and the election of officers for the coming year. All members are encouraged to attend to help set the direction of the squadron for the new year.
The Change of Watch gives us a chance to celebrate the past year and install the new Bridge Officers. We give out awards to the outgoing Bridge and other members who have contributed their time and effort over the year. We always enjoy an excellent meal and a lot of fun.
The meetings are open to all members, guests, and prospective members and are generally scheduled at 6:30 on the 4th Tuesday of selected months. The meetings are often held at the Prospect Cafe.
October Members’ Meeting: “Around Cape Horn -- to Dessert!”
For our meeting on October 23, we’ve planned a double treat --
A movie and a dessert competition!
1st Treat: The movie is a 37 minute Mystic Seaport DVD, "Around Cape Horn". This true story is colorfully narrated by Captain Irving Johnson, who sailed aboard the bark "Peking" in 1929, as the sun set on the day of commercial sail. During his voyage on the big German Windjammer - Johnson compiled unequaled footage of the crew's daily activities, and spectacular images of a wild storm as the ship made the dangerous passage around Cape Horn.
2nd Treat: For dessert, please bring your favorite to share in a dessert contest.
We’ll sample each other’s confections and take a vote to try to decide whose cake
“takes the cake”. Coffee and tea will be provided, along with plates and utensils.
Date: Tuesday, October 23
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Farmington Community Center, 321 New Britain Avenue, Unionville (next to the Police Station)
