Elected Committees

Nominating Committee must have at least 3 merit marks. Responsible for weighing qualifications of members being considered for election to elective offices.

Auditing Committee responsible for auditing the treasurer's records and verifying the financial status of the squadron.

Rules Committee adheres to the squadron by laws as well as the national model by laws. Prepares recommendations for change when needed.

Executive Committee also known as the "Board of Directors" consists of the bridge members, the junior past commander (if available) and members at large (from the membership). Duties are to approve all expenses that are not in the budget. Approve all applications to membership. Fill any vacancy in elected positions. Votes on all motions at the Executive meetings.

Committees Reporting to the Commander

Flag Lieutenant is the Commanders right hand and personal aide.

Chaplain gives the invocation and benediction at squadron meetings and functions.

Merit Mark Chairman collects information from officers and other chairmen as to which members meet the requirements for merit marks. Reports to the Commander.

Good & Welfare sends cards to members and their families to let them know we are thinking about them. Notifies the Editor of the G&P so information can be included in the publication.

Law Officer -must be a member of the bar in the state the squadron meets. Be available to assist the Rules Committee and consult with district and national on any legal matters of the squadron.

Legislative Officer keeps members abreast of all changes in rules and regulations regarding the boating community.

Planning Committee makes suggestions for the betterment of the squadron by listening to the members and their suggestions.

Photographer -takes pictures of different events of the squadron.

Committees reporting to the Executive Officer

Boat Show Chairman responsible for exhibits, man the District booth at boat shows, distributes information to the public regarding boating classes and what USPS is all about.

Co-op Charting Chairman encourages members to check and report any changes on the waterways so our charts can be as accurate as possible. Click Cooperative Charting Committee to learn more about Jones Beach Power Squadron Coop Charting.

Public Relations publicizes our boating classes. Also handles media news, posters, releases or anything that will enhance the image of USPS.

Safety Officer promotes safe boating week at squadron functions. Distributes any safety literature received from District or National.

Vessel Safety Check be sure examiners have completed training and examined five boats under the supervision of a trained examiner. Checks all paper work before sending to National

Environmental Committee reponsibilities include coordinating cleanup dates and promote clean boating practices.

Committees Reporting to the Educational Officer

Local Board Chairmen -works closely with the SEO setting up classes, facilities and fees. Order examinations and handle the return of unused materials. Maintains complete records of all classes and reports the results of all exams to the Commander.

Each course has its own chairman and reports to the SEO

Committees Reporting to the Administration Officer

Boating Activities Chairman plans, coordinates and implements several programs both reachable by boat and car. Events should never conflict with District or National

Membership reviews candidates for membership. Gets the approval of the Executive Committee Processes applications to National.

Member Involvement encourages old and new members to participate in squadron activities including education, social and civic.

Master of Ceremonies welcomes guests at special affairs or when the Commander requests it.

Committees reporting to the Secretary

Editor -responsible for publishing upcoming events for National, District and Squadron including education, social and civic. Responsible for having the publication mailed in a timely manner.

Historian records all history of the squadron each year on printed forms including bridge officers, committee chairmen, awards, classes. Sends records to District

Roster Chairman keeps up to date records of members and notifies National of any discrepancies or changes. Compares records with National during the year.

Web Site Officer -keeps membership informed of up to date classes, events and any new legislation, cancellation of events due to inclement weather etc.

Telephone Service Chairman makes phones calls to the members about upcoming events and emergency communication.

Computer Systems Chairman ensures that a detailed inventory of squadron computer assets are in operable and up to date condition. Will work with members and instructors to help with presentation materials.

Facebook Chairman collects social media including photos of recent events and post them to the social media site.

Committees Reporting to the Treasurer

Fundraising committee handles all fund raising at general meetings.

Donorship Chairman -keeps accurate records of all sponsors and collects yearly fees. Notifies Editor when new sponsor becomes available or when one cancels.

Budget & Finance prepares and plans overall financial affairs of the squadron.

Supply Officer keeps records of sales of squadron supplies, such as burgees, pins, name tags etc. Reports to the Executive Committee periodically.

Property Quartermaster maintains inventory of all squadron properties including serial numbers and reports to the Executive Committee once a year.
