2011 Change of Watch
Lt/C Sharon Weller

Our 2011 Change of Watch occurred on January 12 with dinner at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin, NV. Commander Waller welcomed eighteen squadron members including associate members, Skip and Jeanette Matthies, and special guests, District 28 Commander Connie Johnson, who swore in the new bridge, and past District Commander, Bill Johnson.

After a fun filled happy hour and wonderful dinner, Commander Waller took the podium to begin our meeting. Jo Anne thanked the 2010 bridge members for their hard work and offered a special thanks to outgoing bridge members, Sharon Dack and Linda Pensavalle. The Squadron will surely miss the talents of Sharon and Linda in making each meeting and outing a special event.

We could always count on Sharon to make sure we had a place to meet, food and beverages to consume and fun to be had by everyone. The 2010 Bridge was dismissed and the 2011 Bridge was introduced. The 2011 Bridge includes returning members Commander Jo Anne Waller, Executive Officer John Militello, Squadron Education Officer Mike Accardo, Treasurer Jean Militello. The Secretary position is currently vacant, so if anyone is interested in that bridge position, be sure to contact Jo Anne.

I will be joining the bridge as Administrative Officer. A little about myself might be interesting. I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I love the water even when it's frozen. As a child, swimming and ice skating were a weekly activity. Joe and I married in 1968 and lived on the St. Croix River between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our summer weekends were spent on the water until we moved to Idaho. In Idaho, we lived 60-90 miles from the water but still managed to spend some time on the reservoirs. We moved to Laughlin after retirement to be near the water and purchased our boat within 6 months. We love cruising the river or lake and spending time outdoors. I am looking forward to working with the members of our squadron.

Outgoing Lt/C. Linda Pensavalle prepared a great video of the squadrons' 2010 activities. It was so fun to see the things we accomplished and the fun we had on the water. We laughed at the event pictures and funny faces that our club photographer, Norm Dack had captured. As a special highlight, Linda included pictures of the members on our wedding day and as we look today. She provided a DVD for each member so we can take "another look" anytime we need a flash back.

Commander Waller passed out 2011 calendars to all members. Be sure to highlight February 19 for the "Dogs on the Dock" party at Katherine Landing. This has become an annual event where we hope to make contact with prospective members at our home port and have the opportunity to introduce them to the USPS.
