District 28 Inland Rendezvous
8-9 April 2011
Katherine Landing, AZ
by Lt/C Sharon Weller

On April 8 and 9, we participated in the District 28 Inland Rendezvous at Katherine Landing with members from the Phoenix and San Diego Sail and Power Squadrons.

On Friday night we gathered at the Katherine Landing motel for "meet and great". Those attending from Phoenix were Bill and Connie Johnson, Jean and Terry Grey, Art Ashton, Dan Sheen and his son Peter. Attending from San Diego were Bill Bridge and a friend Don Caton. Members from the Lake Mohave Squadron were JoAnne Waller, John and Jean Militello, Al Trueman, Mike and Barb Accardo, Norm and Sharon Dack and Joe and Sharon Weller.

We enjoyed each other's company, didn't worry about the cool temperature and were very thankful it didn't rain. On Saturday, we met for breakfast at the restaurant and decided to take out the boats even though the skies were filled with dark clouds and streaks of rain. The pictures at the top of the next page should give you an idea of what we were facing.

Not Too Welcoming Skies Greeted The Participants In This Year's Inland Rendezvous

Jean and Terry Grey took their boat out as well as Dan Sheen, with passengers Peter Sheen, Art Ashton and Joe and Sharon Weller with passenger Bill Johnson. While on the lake, we were treated to a mini-air show by vintage airplanes that were participating in an event at the Bullhead/Laughlin airport. The planes swooped near the water and did a few barrel rolls. What a treat! The trip on the lake was short lived since a squall came over the mountains and everyone decided to get back to shore before the rain and wind arrived. Shortly after we got to shore, the thunder clapped and rain poured down. We met at Bill and Connie's motel room to recount the adventure with Connie Johnson and JoAnne Waller. Since the weather was so nasty, we decided to forgo the planned evening barbeque and eat at the restaurant at Katherine Landing. Dinner on Saturday evening included the group from Phoenix and San Diego as well as Al and Eileen Trueman and their guests, Bud and Brenda Kaiser from Wisconsin, Mike and Barb Accardo, JoAnne Waller and Joe and Sharon Weller.
