Lansing Power Squadron Commander D. Dennis Dudley took possession of one of the 85th Anniversary Ensigns that were part of the USPS® Voyage of the Ensign II on 19 August 1999. Arrangements were made through Senator Diane Byrum's office to fly the flag over the state capital building on 24 August.

A certificate was presented to Cdr Dudley to commemorate the event. The presentation ceremony took place in the capitol rotunda with Cdr Dudley, XO Lt/C Bill Bezdek, and P/D/C James Leonard present.

Afterwards, Senator Byrum provided a tour of behind-the-scenes in both houses of legislature for all USPS members present.
