COMMANDER’S MESSAGE Our May dinner meeting was held at the
“Lost in the Fifties” diner in St. Marys on May 8th. The food was great! Our entertainment was Coastie, Splish and
Splash. Please accept my warmest
thanks for the efforts in putting together this dinner meeting. Special thanks go out to Armin and Tom
for the traveling bar; Rick for providing Splish and Splash’s boat to play
in and, of course, Erika, Penny and Rick for their award winning
performance.
We have some very exciting trips and events planned for the summer
months. In May, we have the
”Blessing of the Fleet” at Indian Lake.
I missed this event last year, but am looking forward to joining the
group this year. In June we will
have the Poker Run at Indian Lake.
July is our big cruise to Leamington, Ontario; passports will not be
needed for this trip. The river trip
to Marietta will be in August. I am
very eager to attend these trips and events. I know gas prices are scary, but I hope
you can enjoy one of these adventures with the squadron. Have a safe and enjoyable boating
season. Cdr.

The dinner meeting on May 8th at the “Lost in the Fifties” Diner was a great time. We were glad to see some members that
live near St. Marys that we hadn’t seen for awhile. The food and service was “top notch”. Our traveling squadron bar worked out
real well too. Our program for the
evening was our very own “Safety around the Water” elementary program that
featured Captain Tom, (Commander Tom Schmersal), Coastie (ran by Rick
Kogge), Splish (Erica Kogge) and Splash (Me!). The program went pretty well and it gave
us a chance to show the squadron how it is done when we go into the
elementary schools. Since that night we have done the program at Allen East School,
Lima and the Holy Rosary School, St. Marys.
Along with the above listed in the program, a big thanks to Lea and
Bill Lewis that came and helped at both programs. That is very nice of them to drive all
that way and we really appreciated it.
We are also set up to do the program for a group of children in
June. I have some interesting ideas going into the fall dinner meetings
and hope that I can work things out so that we can have some different
things this year in hopes to make it interesting to everyone. But until then…it is time to go BOATING! Lt/C Penny Kogge SECOND ANNUAL POKER RUN We
did this two years ago and everybody had a great time. Well, we are doing it again. This year it will be in place of the
picnic. The date for this fantastic
time is June 22, 2008. Like the
last time, we will meet at the Moose Club on the north side of
Indian Lake at 10:30. There
will be a sign in period. About 11:30, we will have a light lunch served by
the Moose. Around 12:30, we will get
in our boats and go to find the cards.
This is not a speed event, so we will not have our check in till
2:00. After this, you could go back
on the lake and just spend more time checking it out. As always, we will need some members to
work this event to sign people in and to get out on the water to pass out
the cards. I will need you to call me or e-mail me so I can set up the
lunch. (937-362-2080 or wallykemo@ctcn.net) I will be working with the business in
Indian Lake area to find some prizes for the winners. I hope that if you need some parts or
work done on your boat that you will think about them. I am going to advertise this event with
the local papers and put up posters in the businesses in the area. I am hoping that we will get some
nonmembers to come so we will be able to show them about the Power
Squadron. Hope to hear from all of
you that you will be there. P/C Jim Chamberlin, P
