October 2011 - Report

I hope that everyone enjoyed boating this summer and that you were also able to enjoy our activities: the Neptune Commanders Rendezvous Picnic at Crab Meadow Beach in June and the Beach Party in August, as well as the wonderful cruise this summer and the mooring raft ups. I think everyone had a good time. Thank you to all the organizers, especially Jean and Craig Bonawandt, George and Delores Reichle and Ruth Rubenfeld, Florence Gomes and Patty Tufo and Christine Dickson.

About 14 Neptune members went to the Rendezvous East in Greenport sponsored by the District. It was a fun time with about 300 people from all the squadrons including the Neptune members. Neptune members judged boating safety posters submitted by the youngsters and served 20 boxes of delicious pizzas on Saturday which were gone in minutes, they were very popular. There was dinner and dancing. This is a nice event and if you have never gone you may want to consider it for next year which will be August 3, 4, and 5th at Mitchell Park in Greenport. Bring your boat.

The Neptune Bridge is planning a number of events which we will discuss at our meetings. The District 3 Fall Educational Conference is November 19 at the Melville Marriott Hotel. It starts at 08:00 and ends at 16:00, but you can join at any time. The Chief Commander from national USPS will be attending. You what is happening in USPS nationally and at the district, the new educational programs and offerings and be able to ask questions. If you would like to attend the luncheon for $26, please contact me at the number below.

To learn even more about USPS and Neptune we are holding an Operations Training class. Thankfully this class has no test! It is just to familiarize you with colored and proud history of UPS and Neptune. Remember we are 73 years old now! You will learn about the uniforms, insignias, what the Bridge is and does, and the grades. It is highly recommended for Bridge officers or prospective Bridge officers and all members.

Our Holiday Party is December 17 at the Northport Yacht Club. There will be dinner and dancing by DJ, Ralph Pensa. It will be special so please save the date. We will be giving to some worthwhile causes as well.

Our boating education program has a great lineup of fall classes. See the report by our Educational Officer and our web site for details on the forthcoming classes. Be sure to check our calendar of events, including our meeting dates, on the Neptune website and Sail Angle.

The next Neptune general meeting is Thursday, October 20 at the Northport Yacht Club at 20:00 hours. It will be preceded by a dinner and there will be a guest speaker on Salvage and Towing at the meeting. Please call Marie Thayer or number below to make a dinner reservation. Come to the meetings, have fun and hear what is going on. Remember this is your club, join in the activities and help make them happen. We ask all members to participate. We want and need your participation!
