| The Newport Sail & Power Squadron delegation to the D14 Spring Conference on March 7, 2009 held at Whites of Westport in Massachusetts. |

| At that conference, P/Lt/C Thurston Gray, SN was the recipient of the Charles F. Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is one of five presented by USPS each year. It consisted of the plaque shown here, a lapel pin and a 4 year extension of Lt. Gray's certification for teaching. It also included the sextant shown here, awarded to NSPS in Lt. Gray's honor and a projector to NSPS from the McGraw-Hill Companies. The award was presented by D/C Arthur Kimber, SN of USPS D14, (left) a former Chapman Award recipient and V/C Richard M. Peoples, SN, USPS National Treasurer. |
