Niagara
The Niagara Power Squadron is a member squadron of the United States Power Squadrons® and is part of District 6 which includes 18 squadrons throughout western New York.
The Squadron was chartered in 1955. The first bridge was installed for the 1955- 1956 period. It was formed by existing USPS members desiring to organize a squadron that covered both the upper Niagara River (above the “Falls”) and the lower Niagara River. The squadron burgee chosen incorporated the local legend of the “maid of the mist” since Niagara Falls was the center point of the Squadron’s range. The squadron was incorporated in the State of New York in 1956. Current membership includes both sailors and power boaters.
Niagara Squadron conducts numerous public Safe Boating Courses each year. Squadron members have assess to numerous boating and navigation courses that include everything from cruise planning to off shore navigation, marine electronics to weather. Social events include dinners, dances, guest speakers and local , district and national levels. The Niagara Power Squadron also offers Vessel Safety Checks for boaters in the Niagara area.For more information call 773-2140.
