Safe Boating Through Education

who are we?

Tracing our origin back to the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts and organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and other related subjects.  With some 60,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in some US territories, we are the largest private, totally self-supporting boating organization in the world and enjoy participating with our fellow members not only on the water, but also in the classroom.  Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education.  Over the years, USPS has been honored by three US presidents for our civic contribution and for educating more than four million boaters in the past half-century.  Dedicated to the self-education of our members and to the general public, we offer the highest quality of instruction and materials in all our educational offerings.

usps mission
