boat or jet ski, this class is for you!
This course allows for participants to qualify for
a boater's license (if boater licensing comes to pass). Usually
insurance companies offer a discount for those who have completed a
boat safety course. In addition, it offers one the opportunity to
become a member of the Oklahoma City Sail and Power Squadron.
Topics will include: Compass
Navigation, Basic Navigation, River Operations, Trailering, Anchoring,
Sailing Basics, Navigation Safety Rules, Boat Handling, USPS
Organization, Adverse Conditions, Escape & Avoidance, Marine
Communication Procedures
Class literature is free. one
book per family is ok.
A test will be given at the last
class for those who want certification.
This course meets the educational standards of the
National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and
features a proctored examination - as required by many states and
insurance companies. The course provides for instruction and
examination for laws and regulations of state and local authorities in
the area where the course is taught (Oklahoma).
This course is a expanded version of the Oklahoma State Course and you
will receive the Oklahoma state Certificate upon successful completion
of the course.
We believe that the more educated a boater, the more
likely that he/she will be a safe boater. Boat Smart is the beginning
of a boating education. Students are encouraged to follow this brief
and basic course with additional boating education such as the courses
offered to members of the OkC Sail and Power Squadron. Your instructor
can give you information about membership and the advanced courses.
